There’s always different ways to use skills testing to find the right candidate at the right price. Our UK based client recently gave us this story where she used testing to challenge the candidate and recruitment agency salary expectations, and ended up hiring them at a salary well below their initial range...
“I had deliberately chosen the wrong assessment level to really test this candidate! He was a partner and client manager at his firm in India and although he is part qualified here in the UK with ACCA the recruitment agency were looking to place him at qualified salary level, so I wanted to see how he fared against the UK Chartered Accountant Public Practice Test.
As it happens, I really clicked with this candidate and I have offered him a role with us, but the test allowed me to assess the weak areas which will require training and development and so also helped me decide on a starting salary to offer, which has been accepted despite it being significantly less than the amount initially stated by the agency. I can now use the more detailed test to build an initial training plan for the employee when he starts with us.”
A real win / win and shows the value objective evidence can provide when hiring
